Description

This unique product is only available in our e-commerce store. The flag of Chiriquí is the regional flag (unofficial) that represents the province of Chiriqui, in Panama.

This flag does not have an official history regarding its creation and two versions are cited. The first version explains that the flag was created by the Dolega battalion, during the Coto war in 1921. The flag would not be used again until 1958, when the poet Santiago Anguizola Delgado presented it to Carlos A. Miro, son, flag bearer of the Patron Saint Festival of David in that year. According to this version, the color red means the liberating action and the blood of those scattered by Chiricans in Coto, the green color means the greenery and the fertility of the floors of Chiriqui and was one of the flags used by the battalions that participated in the Coto conflict.

The stars represent the 13 districts of the province, and were introduced only at the beginning of the 1980s Míguel Ángel Brenes Pérez. (before the Highland District was created on July 1, 2017, forming with this 14 districts). Originally, the stars were arranged in a semicircle, at the christening held on May 26, 1995 in the cathedral of David was adopted the format at that time most popular.

The second version relates that the flag was designed and made by Santiago Anguizola and that it was presented for the first time in a cavalcade where the poet was flagged. In this version it indicates that the red color indicates the love of the Chiricans for their land, the green color means the fertility of the soil and the stars indicate the number of districts of the province, the white color of the stars means peace. In the same way, this flag was arranged in a semicircle shape but was then arranged in a circular manner, indicating the same importance for the districts. The flag of Chiriqui or its red and green flags did not possess stars, but until the beginning of the eighties.
